FARCA Blog back up and running
So the FARCA blog has come to terms with itself and has now grown up a little. I was not sure what to do with it as it is not really mine so we took a few days off to regroup. I mean all I have is the password the beauty of the rest lies in the members of its illustrious club. And this Blog is about us and riding bikes and such. So I figured it would be right to start anew and refocus on what it is that we are here to do. With that thought in mind (the blog growing up as it were) I would like to take a moment to introduce the newest FARCA member, The Senator, the man whose seed lay fertile in the belly of my mother and made me the collection of cells I am today.
The Senator was in town over the weekend so it seemed only fitting that he don the FARCA jersey for a ride. I wanted to see what the FARCA letters would do to his gut. Seems he needs to stick it out a little more cuz i know it’s there and I am pretty sure he is sucking in.
Now you can see where my squatty build and quads come from. The man on the right has a VO2 of like 300 but played baseball so he never cashed in on the motor. The man on the left has smaller numbers but is much better looking which counts for a lot.
Truth be told, the Senator wanted to do a ride and needed to borrow a jersey and knicks (he is wearing my shorts in this photo and if that ain’t family love I don’t know what is) and it was soon evident that the only jersey with the ample cut to accomodate all of the Senator was going to be the FARCA jersey. I was a little reluctant but when i got it out he asked me with much excitement if he was going to get to wear it. He knows about FARCA and i think missed his calling so it was good karma to share. He did it proud. We never took it out of the little ring.
Another FARCA guest was in town last week….The Big Chief came through the other day so i made him dinner and breakfast and we drank some beers. Chief comes from El Paso and is riding across the country. He had been having a hard time of it but I think his time in Idaho really brought back his strength. I fixed him my favorite breakfast…Sports Drink, bacon, and eggs.
As you can tell the Chief and I were looking into getting some Winnie the Pooh footy pajamas and I think the Chief was thinking this would be a good addition to the riding wear he was sporting as it has been a hell of a rough trip and a nice warm blanket and a nap would be nice. Also you can tell this is the background we use for all pictures of visitors. On the left is Tony, Big Chief’s buddy, who is a hell of a guy and is driving support. Because the Chief ain’t no dummy.
Chief and I were on the National Team together back in 1995 and he is a hell of a good guy and is looking to make it to South Dakota this week. Looks like they are enjoying themselves: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=3Tzut&page_id=77680&v=I
Now with the bacon fat cooling in my veins i thought this was an interesting marker of how much bacon I actually do eat. This jar was started last fall (sometime late about the time we start growing beards and drinking dark beer) and now look at it would you? Where do it go? This is FARCA, boys.
That is a lot of bacon fat. It makes me wonder a couple of things…1) if you eat all of that bacon where does the fat stick if you don’t have much stuck to you? 2) is there an industrial use for it? 3) what would it be like to smear all of it on a large sheet of visquine and have bike jousting on it 4) how long could the FARCA membership survive on just the fat in this jar? It looks like there is a spare bit of bacon actually lost in there which is kind of enticing as well. In any case it was good to have the Chief in town and I do wish him drier skies, the intermittent tailwind, and more good company down the road. If you would like to get some of these pajamas let us know and we will source them from Asia. Adult sizes available.
Sheeptown discussions are going well and the weekend is coming together nicely. should have something on that soon enough.
